Last Wednesday, MIAS was pleased to host its annual Diplomatic Gala, offering over 120 students the opportunity to network with around 50 industry experts. The opportunity to connect with international affairs professionals proved to be invaluable, with many students taking advantage of the opportunity to broaden their understanding of international affairs ?✨
Thank you to Dr Sandro Demaio, Chief Executive Officer of VicHealth, for providing the Gala’s keynote address. Dr Demaio’s description of diplomacy as a ‘humbling sport’ was a message that resonated with all, challenging attendees to consider the need for earnest collaboration within the international community to address inequality and intergenerational disadvantage. His willingness to share his profound insights was greatly appreciated, as is his ongoing support of MIAS.
Special thanks must also be extended to the Gala’s panellists, Daye Gang, barrister at the Victorian Bar and International Bar Association Outstanding Young Lawyer 2020; Brian B., Consul at the United States of America Consulate General Melbourne ; and Emerald Sage, Head of intelligence services at OSINT Combine. These panellists provided a rich insight into careers in international affairs, offering an inspiring reflection on their careers. A key takeaway from the panel was the importance of grounding your career in your passions and the need for humility and service-based leadership within international affairs. We thank our panellists for their generosity in both time and knowledge.
Finally, the most important thank you must go to our vibrant MIAS community, your continued support is vital to the success of these events.
