On Tuesday June 9, the Monash International Affairs Society (MIAS) had the pleasure of organising a virtual roundtable with the Argentinian Embassy. We were joined by two guest speakers: Ambassador Hugo Javier Gobbi and Secretary Dario Polski.
Both their experiences and expertise allowed for an insightful and interesting discussion. Topics of discussion included: Argentine-Australian relations, trade and investment, covid-19, and the role of the Argentinian Embassy. Attendees were also presented with the opportunity to ask our speakers some questions. These questions ranged from Argentina and the Paris Climate Agreement, People-to-People relations, Debt and the IMF, Populism, and the South American Trading bloc – Mercosur.
One of our attendees described it as:
“Enjoyable … these events are a good opportunity to understand the different challenges that countries are facing during the pandemic, based on their own economic and political realities”

We are extremely grateful that we have been able to continue to deliver exciting speakers for our members despite the current situation. We believe that it was a great opportunity to introduce to our members a better insight into Latin America and Argentina.
