Today, MIAS was honoured and privileged to host H.E. Ambassador Bello Kazaure Husseini, High Commissioner of Nigeria to Australia. In this online roundtable co-hosted by the Monash African Society (MAFS), attendees learnt about His Excellency’s work along with Australian-Nigerian relations.
Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa, making up 18.13% of the continent’s economy. It also is home to around 200 million people, making it the largest country by population. It’s economy and large population make it a regional power, with many experts predicting Nigeria will take its rightful place on the world stage by the end of the twenty-first century.
His Excellency spoke on Nigeria’s growth, discussing the position of Lagos as a powerhouse in African economics and politics, along with the growth in key Nigerian industries, including: manufacturing; natural resource production; financial services; communications; and agriculture. He also discussed ways he hoped Australia and Nigeria could collaborate and how young people could learn more about Africa.
MIAS is grateful to His Excellency and the Nigerian High Commission for their assistance and for volunteering their time to teach us all more about the interesting country of Nigeria. We are also grateful to our partners at MAFS for collaborating with us. We hope to work together again soon.
