Academics is one of the core pillars of MIAS and we are committed to actively building connections with Ambassadors, Consulates, and professionals within the international affairs space to bring YOU plenty of opportunities to learn more about your field and see where it can take you!
Some of our past academic events include:
- Virtual Careers Series 2020 and 2021: Bringing you a panel of distinguished guests to hear from their experiences and build your network!
- Roundtable with the Canadian High Commissioner
- Panel Discussion on Artificial Intelligence and its Challenges in International Affairs
- Virtual Roundtable with Bob Carr – Former Foreign Minister and longest-serving Premier of NSW
Careers Board
MIAS is also committed to providing our members with opportunities to gain experience in the IR field! In 2021, we are producing a Careers Guide – a publication that will collate all potential IR related opportunities – from experiences at Consulates, Think Tanks, and NGOs!
Not only that, each week, we post currently available opportunities on our ‘Careers Board’. Head to our Facebook and Instagram to find out which opportunities you can get involved in NOW!
Mentoring with MIAS
In 2021, we have developed a mentoring program for MIAS members interested in connecting with a professional in the international affairs space.
Our goal is to match you with a mentor who is working or has worked in a field/ role that you aspire to work in. You will be able to speak to them about your specific career goals, get advice on professional pathways and ask any career-related questions. This meeting is tailored to you and your career goals!
International Affairs Internships
In 2021, MIAS is incredibly proud to announce the launch of a new internships opportunity available to all eligible students at Monash University.
This new program, established with Monash Arts, MIAS, and the Consular Corps Melbourne allows students the opportunity to earn academic credit all the while gaining experience at one of the 80 consulates across Melbourne. We hope this will be a fruitful and exciting opportunity for students engaged in international affairs, and we at MIAS are honoured to have been part of its establishment!
