MIAS and the Monash University Italian Club (AMICI) were honoured to host Her Excellency Mrs Francesca Tardioli, Italian Ambassador to Australia. This event occurred on the final day of the Festival Dello Sviluppo Sostenibile and focused around Italy’s international action to combat climate change in the framework of the UN Agenda 2030 for sustainable development.
Francesca Tardioli is an Italian senior career diplomat and Ambassador to Australia. Prior to her appointment in August 2019, Her Excellency was Deputy Political Director and Principal Director for the United Nations and Human Rights at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. She joined the Italian National Diplomatic Service in 1991 and has held postings in Tirana, Nuremberg, Brussels, Riyadh, and Tripoli.
The Festival Dello Sviluppo Sostenibile was created to raise awareness among growing segments of the population on social, economic and environmental sustainability, going beyond subject-matter experts, in order to foster a cultural shift in individual and collective behaviours, and to stimulate “bottom-up” requests that commit the Country’s leadership to comply with the agreements undertaken in the UN. Furthermore, the Festival wants to give voice to citizens, businesses, national and local administrations, universities and civil society in order to foster dialogue and the sharing of best practices on the issues of the 2030 Agenda.
We are grateful to Her Excellency and the Italian Embassy for speaking at the event. We are also grateful to our partners at AMICI.
