In the lead up to the U.S. Presidential Election, MIAS hosted a round table with Professor Simon Jackman, Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. Studies Centre at the University of Sydney.
Jackman was born and raised in Brisbane, and graduated with first class Honours in Government from the University of Queensland. He earned his doctorate at the University of Rochester and Princeton University and is a citizen of both Australia and the United States.
Jackman’s research has appeared in the leading journals of political science, in a publishing career spanning thirty years. Between 1996 and 2016, he was a Professor of Political Science and Statistics at Stanford University. Jackman served as one of the Principal Investigators of the American National Election Studies, the world’s longest running and most authoritative survey of political behaviour and attitudes, directing this project over both the 2012 and 2016 presidential election cycles.
Professor Jackman provided his insights to the upcoming U.S. election, including the races to watch, the speed in which we will know the result, and the general overview of the process. This also included a discussion on the policies of each candidate and some historical analysis of elections, including controversial elections such as the 2000 election.
MIAS would like to extend appreciation to Professor Jackman for volunteering his time to speak with our members.
